Encaustic Workshop
At Laluque Atelier
1362 Bathurst Street, Toronto
Saturday, June 5, 10am to 3:30pm, 2010
With Artist Victoria Wallace
Encaustic is the ancient art of painting with melted beeswax. My comprehensive Encaustic workshops give participants a thorough knowledge of the Encaustic medium and method - from the classical to the experimental. Artists with backgrounds in any medium will find these workshops are an exciting opportunity to expand their visual vocabulary with wax. However, no artistic ability is required to produce uniquely beautiful Encaustic artwork.
Over the duration of the workshop, you’ll learn about
the history of Encaustic
safety issues with Encaustic tools and media
Encaustic waxes, media and materials used
Encaustic techniques including: tools, layering, scraping/scribing, use of stencils, collage, image transfer, monotypes, carving and more.
The attendees produce as many as five or six original pieces of art in the Encaustic medium during the workshop.
You may bring a photocopied/Xerox’d image for print-transfer onto the wax, but I will provide samples for you to work with. You may also wish to bring a graphite drawing to print-transfer onto the Encaustic surface.
Please wear an old shirt or an apron to protect your clothing.
Cost of the workshop is $125 plus tax per person. This price includes all materials, paints, media and substrates; one hour lunch break. To reserve your seat, please pay in advance at Laluque Atelier (416) 833-1399, or Victory Art Supply 705.536.3051, with credit card by telephone or email.
I look forward to meeting you all!
